Brief Answer:
rare possible side effect

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is a very rare side effect that can occur and would normally be considered if other causes have been ruled out.

Because shingles can be associated with severe nerve related pain in some cases, medications like neurontin are prescribed because they treat nerve related pain.
The antiviral may help if there is an active blister rash present to help it to resolve sooner but unfortunately would not help with any associated pain.

If she is not comfortable with the neurontin then it should be discontinued after discussion with her doctor.
If there are no significant nerve related symptoms, then she may not need an alternative but if she is experiencing symptoms then her doctor can give other medication.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
