Does Irbesartan Cause High Heart Rate?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jun 2016
Question: Is it possible that irbersartan can cause your heart rate to go up? My blood pressure is normal, but my pulse is crazy...116, 105, mostly stays at 97 resting just today it is 79...first time in a few days. I was taking another blood pressure med...bystolic 10mg along with irbersartan 150mg. My insurance would not cover bystolic any more so my doctor increase the irbersartan dosage to 300 and dropped the bystolic. My blood pressure rans 122/60, 130/63 and such. I'm experiencing dizziness when I get up or lay down but believe it to be from the change. I'm concern mostly about my heart rate.

Brief Answer:
probably beta blocker withdrawal effect...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

stopping a beta blocker like nebivolol (bystolic) may cause a fast heart rate until the body adjusts to the change. Irbesartan may cause it too and it's fairly common (1-10%) but if the symptoms started right after you've stopped nebivolol, then I would bet on nebivolol withdrawal to be the cause.

Kind Regards!
