Question: My husband, who has atrial fibrillation was just stung by a bee (he is allergic) and took 50mg of diphenhydramine. Could there be dangerous complications?

Welcome to HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
Ideally Diphenhydramine should be avoided in heart patients due to risk of arrhythmias, tachycardia.
Now since he has taken 50 mg, that is not a very high dose. He just needs to be monitored. Usually one feels drowsy and sleepy after taking the medicine so let him sleep.
Measure his heart rate if that is excessive consult your doctor.
If he gets no problem he should not take the next dose. If bee sting causes swelling then he should rather prefer to take Levocetrizine. That is relatively safer.
