Brief Answer:
Yes the drug is known to reduce the blood pressure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Alprazolam is a benzodiazepine drug and as you are already aware of, the drug is one of commonly used sleep medicine. The drug is used to treat anxiety also. You have seen positive response in blood pressure after taking 0.25 mg doses in day time.

Yes the drug is known to reduce blood pressure. The drug cause reduction in anxiety which is though to be the main mechanism behind lowered blood pressure by Alprazolam. Various studies prove this finding.

Though Alprax is a safe drug but the drug is known to cause tolerance so should be avoided to be used on regular basis. If persistently high blood pressure is really a problem then consult your doctor for evaluation.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care. Please don't hesitate to ask again for more doubts.

Sir
I'm taking the drug Alprax for all most 25 years. Starting with a dosage of 0.5 mg and reduced to 0.25 for about 10 years. As I am not getting proper sleep the dose is increased to 0.5mg for about 5 years before going to bed. Doctors advised me to increase the dosage of my BP medicine bisoprolol combination with amlodipine 5 mg in morning and 5 mg also in the evening. I followed for few days and find heavy swelling in the feet particularly while in sitting position. I discontinued amlodipine as per the advice of the doctor. I'm in some problems which is causing lots of anxiety and perhaps the reason for the high BP. Perhaps I will come out of the problem in a month or two. Can I continue the alprax 0.25 mg during day time incase if the BP is high. Please let me know.

Brief Answer:
Yes you can take the drug on sos basis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again and thanks for asking a follow up question

Yes without any fear you can take the drug on SOS basis in case BP is high. But try to avoid using it regularly. Regular use results in tolerance. The drug is a safe drug and will not cause any harm if you will use the drug on sos basis.

Try to relax yourself and avoid anxiety provoking situations. Discontinue the use once you are relaxed and are out of anxiety.

Thanks, Take care

Brief Answer:
Exercises especially relaxation exercises help to reduce the anxiety.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking a follow up

Anxiety can be reduced by relaxation exercises. Breathing exercises, yoga, progressive muscle relaxation exercises etc help to relax the individuals and thus aid in reducing the anxiety.

Sleep for at least 7-8 hours a day and this will also reduce the anxiety. Take diets rich in proteins and low in fats. This will improve the anxiety. Avoid excess tea, coffee or carbonated drinks. Take green tea at least a cup a day. Green tea is considered as anxiety relieving substance. Exercises daily and if possible jog for at least 20 minutes a day. This will also help to supplement the actions of medicines.

Start taking Vitamin B12 supplements along with Omega 3 Fatty Acid supplements. All these supplements are considered to reduce the anxiety.

Visit a psychiatrist for persisting anxiety symptoms.

Thanks, Take care
