Question: Hi, My four year old had a nasty viral illness, been better for about a week. At the time she had temps for 10 days, rash, a little vomiting. She has peeling to her hands +++ post illness and her eyes are puffy. the peeling has settled but she remains with puffy eyelids. It has taken her a while to recover fully. Everything else is normal in her, running playing eating etc etc but just the eyes now. Bloods came back negative for kawaskai, measles, showed previous hand foot and mouth ( had this about 3 weeks before she had this virus) , negative XXXXXXX fever and previous slap cheek infection. will the eyes just settle or do i need to take her back to doc?

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
Slight redness in eye with swelling of eyes is common in viral illness. Usually viral illness subsides in a week or two.
Had the swelling been associated with fever, pain, any eye discharge or vision abnormalities then immediate doctor consultation would have been required
As she is normal and active otherwise, there is no need to worry.
Sleeping in a propped up position by using an extra pillow and warm water compresses would help in faster resolution of swelling or puffiness.
Hope that answered your query. Should there be a further question, please write back.
Take care
