Question: to be answered by Dr XXXXXXX jangid

dear Dr ...this is a follow up...as mentioned I am a male and had an exposure with another male in which we kissed and had protected oral sex ....he then fingered my anus and rimmed my anus ( used his tongue on my anus and rectum) about 2.5 weeks later I had a fever and inflamed tonsils and sore throat ..as I was worried I got the hiv duo test antibody and p24 antigen test at 21 days after the incident ...the test was done on fourth day of syntoms ....it was NON REACTIVE. however I am still getting 98.8 fever every evening ..it comes for 30 minutes then goes itslef again comes and goes and clears by 8 pm . also I get headaches and paid behind eyes at times . what is my risk..if I had hiv syntoms would the duo test show it ? is repeat testing needed???

Brief Answer:
There is no risk.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Xxxxxxx6,

Welcome to HCM once again.

Fever, pain behind eyes and headache might be due to some other viral illness not related to HIV and the Duos test result after 21 days is also considered reliable so don't get worried or tensed as the risk is unlikely. Consult your physician, go for some investigations and follow the treatment regime. You can go for repeat testing after three months to get 100% reliable and conclusive result. For any further query feel free to ask me any time and I am here to help you out straight way.

Thank You

dear Dr I read online that the window period is 28 days for duo test and before that it is not very reliable ...is that true ...what is the percentage of reliability at 21 days ....if somebody has hiv syntoms will duo test show as positive?? also at night my body temperature drops to 97 F...is that related to anything of hiv or any STD ...thanks again

Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (19 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
The window period for HIV lasts upto 3 months.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Xxxxxx6,

Welcome back and thanks for follow-up.

The window period for HIV varies from 15 days to 3 months and HIV Duos test result after 21 days is more than 90% reliable but to get 100% confirmative result you need to get tested again after 3 months. If the infection is there then the Duos test will show the positivity but it is non reactive after 21 days so no need to get feared or tensed as you are absolutely safe and risk free. Fever is non specific for HIV for which take some medicines after consulting any physician and you will be fine soon.

Thank You
