Can One Take Oral Contraceptives While Treating Epilepsy?

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Feb 2016
Question: My wife had a miss carriage of the baby in her fifth month and she is epileptic.

Her Gynic suggested not to plan for kids for about a year. Gynic did not recommend her having a loop and also strongly asked not to use pregnancy prevent medication as she is using anti-epileptic drugs.

So, the only only left for us to participate in sex is condoms. I don't have any kind of comfort/satisfaction with condoms and it is demotivating me to participating in sex.

The moment that I wear the condom, the stiffness is lost and I am unable to penetrate into my wife's vagina.

So, I wanted to know if I can use any medication that help me to participate in sex actively and happily (with condom).

Brief Answer:
Try spermicidal cream

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the query
I really don't know why your Gynaecologist doctor has forbidden use of Oral Contraceptives because the only effect of anti epileptic medicines on Oral Contraceptives is that they lower effectiveness of pills so you need to take pills with higher estrogen content . Loop may have been denied for fear of infection so first you should discuss this with your gynaecologist doctor to reconsider
You can take 10 mg Tadalafil 2 hours before sex and then try to use condom
Other is spermicidal cream which is to be applied before sex.

MY wife is using high power anti-epileptic medicine - Kepra 750MG twice a day. Both the Neurologist and Gynic did not want my wife to use Oral Contraceptives. One of the reasons is that she was having the epilepsy syndromes twice/thrice after her miss carriage and they feel medicine will get diluted faster and may cause more health issues.

The reason for not going for loop is what you mentioned, potential chances of frequent infections.

Thanks for quick response and I will try the medicine recommended by you.
