Question: My wife has low breast milk supply (About 20 ml per day). She delivered our baby 3 months back. She had a C - Section. The baby is currently on formula feed (Nan Pro). What diet or medication do you suggest to increase her breast milk supply. The baby does not suck,so my wife is currently pumping and giving him the milk.

Brief Answer:
Some more information. Adequate water intake, no stress.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

First of all do not panic.

I would like to know about her daily water intake and intake of milk and milk products.
Secondly, is she taking any Iron, Calcium and Protein supplements regularly, after delivery?

Many times, mother's adequate water intake helps a lot in breastmilk production.
Also, having a comfortable surroundings while breastfeeding the baby and avoiding under physical and mental stress, helps increase breast milk production.

She has 2 litres of water everyday. Coming to milk - she has a cup of tea and coffee & 2 glasses of lactaways powder mixed in milk in a day. She is having CC74 and Vitcofol everyday after delivery. Also she had problem of thyroid before delivery for which she is having her thyroid tablets too every morning.

Metachlopramide, Asparagus

Detailed Answer:
Hi there, thanks for appreciating the answer and reverting back.

I have read your reply.
Thanks for the detail feedback.

I will suggest that she should have some more water intake, may be 2.5 to 3 litres.
Continue with the supplements.
Also, seek prescription support from your treating doctor for Tablet Metachlopramide, 10 mg twice a day for 20 days.
Use of traditional milk formation stimulators like Shatavari - Asparagus, dry powder 0.5 gm twice a day with milk helps improve breastmilk production.

I hope this answer helps you.
Thanks.
