Question: Hi Dr XXXXXXX My mother is 62yrs.Is it necessary to vaccinate her with influenza vaccine?she is diabetic and hypertensive and is fine health now,?kindly respond.

dr VPYK XXXXXXX I forgot to tell you that she is also a hypothyroid patient,on tab elthroxin 50mcg since 6 months?can she be vaccinated aganist influenza?

Influenza vaccine is now indicated a must vaccine for elderly individuals greater than 60 years of age .

This vaccine is particularly indicated in diabetic individuals who tend to have suppressed immunity.

This vaccine protects against viral pneumonias in the post vaccination period.

This vaccine is not a contraindication in presence of hypothyroidism.

Active chest infections and viral infections in the current state preclude immunisation.

Since she is currently healthy,you can administer the vaccine to her.

An inactivated spilt viroid vaccine is generally indicated through subcutaneous or intramuscular route.

The vaccine is usually given yearly once.
