Can I Apply Aloe Extract On Reddish Rash Of Chin Area?

default
Posted on Fri, 14 Aug 2015
Question: I just shaved off my goatee and have been left with a horrible beet red rash after wearing it for 6 months. My pharmacist gave me hydrocortisone 1% to be applied 4x daily. Should I continue? I have natural aloe plants. Can I use their oil also?

Brief Answer:
Oral prednisolone, Topical hydrocortisone

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HCM.
It seems you have got local irritation to the shaving cream you have used. It called Contact irritant dermatitis.
Nothing to worry as your skin will be fine soon.
I would advise you a week course of oral prednisolone in low dose (5-10mg).
Apply a mild corticosteroid like hydrocortisone and antibiotic like fusidic acid thrice a day.
Instead of Aloe extract I would suggest you to apply some good quality moisturiser like Cetaphil DAM twice a day over full face.
Avoid use of any cosmetics/facewash for few days.
Avoid direct sun exposure and use water-based sunscreen before stepping out in sun.
Hope this was useful.
Take care
