Can Diarrhea And Stomachache Occur Simultaneously During Thigh Pain And Backache?

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Oct 2017
Question: I have had right hip pain on and off for a few years. Lately, my right front thigh is numb and the past 24 hours the pain is radiating to the small of my back up to my shoulder blade and around the right side. I also have had diarrhea for the past 12 hours and pain in my stomach. Related or just the flu? I am icing the hip now but have had no relief from Tylenol or ice. Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query my dear patient.
I have gone through your details and i appreciate your concerns.
As per your query most likely you have two overlapping problems whch are not related to each other.

Lets take them one by one.

I also have had diarrhea for the past 12 hours and pain in my stomach.

Most likely you are suffering from Gastroenteritis. It is an intestinal infection marked by diarhoea, cramps, nausea, vomiting and fever. However its not necessary that all symptoms are there in a single patient.Depending on the cause, viral gastroenteritis symptoms may appear within one to three days after you're infected and can range from mild to severe. Symptoms usually last just a day or two, but occasionally they may persist as long as 10 days.

Treatment-

Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration–You need to drink more than usual to replace the fluids lost from vomiting and diarrhoea. Water is best, but you could also try fruit juice and soup.
Take paracetamol for any fever or aches and pains or you can take diclofenac 50 mg twice daily for better and fast relief.
Get plenty of rest.

Now lets move on to numbness and pain-See there are two possibilities either its paresthesia or some nerve is pinched causing pain termed as sciatica.
I would suggest you to go for a MRI scan of spine.
Are you diabetic or hypertensive?
Get your serum vitamin B12 levels checked up.

Medications could be suggested only after proper investigations.
