Can Zostavax Vaccine And Flonase Be Taken Together?

default
Posted on Thu, 15 May 2014
Question: I gave a patient Zostavax vaccine today and I am worried that it may interact with Flonase he uses for seasonal allergies. Should I be concerned, or Flonase not considered a systemic steroid?

All clear

Thank you for asking!
Zoster vaccine and flonase has nothing to interact with. They are perfectly safe together. So no worries. Usually immunomodulators decrease the immune system and live vaccines might lead to infection despite being attenuated. But nasal fluticasone does not do that. So is true for oral and systemic steroids. But flonase is nasal one and topical no interaction at all and if any at the remotest possibility , not enough to cause trouble. So cheer up and move on.
I hope it helps.Dont forget to close the discussion please.

Chicken pox virus is a full fledged virus fully competent. And vaccine is attenuated handicapped one just to induce and boost immunity. Flonase is hardly to react to that. So stop worrying. Nothing is going to happen.
