Brief Answer:
Yes, xanax would be fine for now

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Xanax can be taken for now. However, the priority should be to assess for the cause of the back pain. An EKG should be done if there is associated chest pain that radiates to the back. If there is associated upper back pain between the scapula then imaging studies depending upon the hemodynamic stability can be advised. Upon examination, if there is a suspected spine issue then an MRI can be advised involving the respective level of the spine e.g thoracic , lumbar or sacral to rule out or look for any compression or degenerative changes, in consultation with your doctor.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
