Posted on Mon, 25 Apr 2016
Question: Can and should children's Tylenol and children's Motrin be given at the same time. Like Motrin every 8 hours and Tylenol every 6 hours. At one point in the day, they are going to be given at the exact same time. Is this ok?

Brief Answer:
Yes,can be given but it depends.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,

Tylenol (acetaminophen) is generally used as a pain reliever and to reduce fever while motrin (ibuprofen) has also similar kind of property with additional antiinflammatory effect.

Both the drugs are also available in combination as a pediatric suspension and given when there is high grade fever.Even both the drugs can also be given at the same time in a day.

In your child's case,it depends on the dosage of the drugs and for which particular purpose you are giving it.

Also,if the drugs are prescribed by a qualified doctor then there is no issue since self medication must not be done especially in children.

So,kindly let me know the dosage and clinical symptoms of your child so that I can guide you accordingly.
