Question: Can I take 50mg Trazodone with 1 mg of lorazepam before going to bed for insomnia, I take the Trazodone right after dinner.and the lorazepam at bedtime. I take 0.5 of lorazepam now but I have taken it alone before I was prescribed Trazodone and the 1mg lorazepam put me right to sleep. Not sleeping well at all and feel the large mg of lorazepam would work.

Brief Answer:
Yes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic!

Yes, trazodone can be taken with lorazepam 1 mg dose at bedtime. But please keep in mind that trazodone also induces sleep, though the mechanism of action is different from that of lorazepam. So combining the two may make you very sleepy. Therefore I would suggest that you first use a lower dose of lorazepam with trazodone, say 0.5 mg or even less, for at least a couple of days. Then after seeing how it goes, hike up the dose if required. There is a fairly high chance that you won't need a 1 mg dose.

Since trazodone has been prescribed for depression, I expect that its dose would be gradually built up. With each dose hike, you may be needing a lesser dose of lorazepam. Also as the depression and anxiety improve, you will notice an improvement in sleep as well.

I hope this clears up thins for you. Please feel free to ask in case you need any clarifications.

Best wishes.
