Can Pravastatin Cause Memory Loss?

Question: 72 years old no history of heart disease, very fit but : cholesterol 238: triglyceride 94: chol/HDL ratio 3.2:HDL chol 75: non-HDL 163: LDL 144: VLDL 19. My doctor has prescribed 20 mg prevastatin - is this good - I hear it can cause memory loss and is not effective for ages > 65?

Prevastatin can cause many side effects , most noticable are the following -
(1) Muscular side effects .
(2) Neurological side effects like impairement of memory .
(3) Allergic reactions
(4) Liver and Kidney related side effects
You are absolutely right , elderly are more sensitive to develop side effects of prevastatin specially the muscular side effects like pain , tenderness , cramps , twitching of muscles and loss of muscle mass .
I would strongly suggest you to discuss about other alternative options available , that is , replacing prevastatin with any of the other safer drugs like Rosuvastatin or Atorvastatin , which are much safer for elderly people in comparison to Prevastatin .
