Can Nicotine Lozenges Cause Loss Of Appetite?

default
Posted on Thu, 17 Dec 2015
Question: I have lost my appetite, want to eat prepare but when I sit down is doesn't taste good. I am losing weight
And had many tests all normal. Sometimes when I do get food down it feels like it stays at bottom of my stomach not going down. Sometimes I throw up and sometimes it passes on.
The only thing I can think might be a problem I use XXXXXXX lozenges because I gave up smoking in 1997.
Any suggestions I don't think I need a shrink.

Brief Answer:
loss of apetite may be due to nicotine lozenges so if feasible quit it

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thanks for putting your query in hcm. Loss of apetite may be due to use of nicotine lozenges. Staying of food in stomach for longer period of time suggest decrease in motility of gastrointestinal tract. Since all the reports are normal. If you were my patient I would have treated you symptomatically.
1. Proton pump inhibitor like losec od before breakfast along with a prokinetic agent like domperidone 30mg od before breakfast
2. Apetite stimulant like syrup containing cyproheptadine. To be take 1 tsf half hr before each major meals
3. Some tablets which contain vitamin and minerals twice a day as decrease in some minerals and vitamins may casue loss of taste.
4. I also suggest tablet containing chlordizepoxide and clidinium bromide twice day half hr before lunch and dinner. This is very effective in improving post prandial fullness. This is a prescription medicine which your doctor will know about.

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Wish you a good health
