Can Metoprolol, Lipitor And Losartan Be Taken Together?

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Dec 2014
Question: I had several tests done on my own thru a Healthfare. Findings were 2 things: the result of a stroke/carotid artery disease test showed Mild disease, mild plaque formation. On the left minimal plaque, on the right Mild stenosis or less than 50%. The other test PAD showed I fell within the mildly abvomal range. ABI=0.70-0.90.
My new doctor wants me to begin taking MetoProlol, 25 mg and Liptor 10 mg. I am already taking Losartan, 50 mg. I am nervous about taking these drugs. The doctor was very hesitant about starting me on the MetoProlo and I sensed this. Now I am not so sure I really need this drug or the Lipitor for that matter.
Can you give an opinion on taking these together or if really for sure need to start these drugs with these test results. My bp in her office recently was 140/80 pulse 64. I weigh 174 lbs and am 5'2 and just turned 60.

Brief Answer:
Take lipitor

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your query.
I think I would be able to help you.

The fact remains that after 60 the possibility of stroke and heart attacks increases. So it was very sensible to do the tests.

I would suggest you avoid the metoprolol since the heart rate is already low. You stated it was 62. So I would definitely avoid that specially dance your bp is within the prescribed limits .upto 140/90 by the latest guidelines needs no treatment.

I will however suggest you continue lipitor. This will stabilise the plaques that have been detected. Else they can break and get stuck in the brain vessels causing stroke.

So I recommend taking lipitor. Suggest to check lipid profile If not yet tested.
try to loose/ control weight.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible.
I hope that the information helps you to know about the symptoms.

Best of luck.
Dr Mittal.
