Can Meftal Dose Be Given For High Fever, Chills And Headaches?

Question: My 8 year old son is suffering from high fever 103F, chills and head ache. We've administered paracetamol once with doctors advice. Can we give mafthol-p dose now

We have administered paracetamol 1hour back. Now fever is 102. Can we give 200mg menthol to 25kg my son now

I do not suggest giving menthol

Thanks for writing back.

Paracetamol should be given at dose of 15 mg/kg/dose at minimum interval of 3-4 hrs. Menthol just creates a soothing effect. I do not think menthol is required. Rather I would give metal P (mefenenamic acid) at dose of 5mg/kg/dose at minimum interval of 6 hrs. You may also give tepid sponging with lukewarm water.

Thanks doctor. I meant mefenimic acid only. As we have given paracetamol dose 1 hour back only may be we have to wait another 3 hours for mefanamic acid dose. Please correct me if I'm wrong

You can give mefenenamic acid now irrespective of the dose of paracetamol. The next dose of mefenenamic acid should be at a interval of 6 hours from the previous dose of mefenenamic acid and not paracetamol.
