default
Posted on Mon, 19 Dec 2016
Question: I had and was treated for Osteomyelitis this summer and was in the hospital for three and a half months. I also have very advanced RA and was taking Xeljanz before I went into the hospital. I have been on just about all the RA meds that are out there in the 21 years since being diagnosed. Now I have been given Leflunomide but I an concerned that since it also is an immuno suppressant it will bring back more pain and the ostomyelititis. Am I right?

Brief Answer:
Leflunomide is safe

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the query.

Hope this message finds you in good health.

Considering the suffering and pain that you have been going through recently, your doubts about leflunomide are absolutely right.

But let me assure you that leflunomide is basically a Disease Modifying Anti Rheumatic Drug (DMARD). It is the most advanced and safest drug available in the market right now. If you maintain good body immunity, leflunomide won't affect osteomyelitis.

I suggest you to continue taking Leflunomide along with other osteomyelitis medicines without any hesitation.Once the RA pain is under control, you can always reduce its dosage gradually to the minimum optimum dose.

Maintain healthy diet, get blood counts checked regularly. If you see any signs of blood count derangements,do consult a physician.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to consult me anytime for any further doubts that you may have.

Thank you.

Kind regards...
