Posted on Tue, 29 Dec 2015
Question: I have been checking my blood pressure for 2 hours. It got as high as 170/94 and my heart rate was 121. It was just 144/84 heart rate 90. I have dry mouth and every time I drink I have to pee. I have been at the hospital for a week with my husband and have had very little sleep and am fatigued . I also have a been doctoring a bad toothache all week during his hospital stay. I have been taking 800mg ibuprofen daily. Today the pain was so bad I took a hydrocodene 325/5. Could this be bad reaction to hydrocodene?

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I carefully read your question and would explain that the dry mouth could be related to hydrocodone adverse effects.

High blood pressure and high heart rate are not related to hydrocodone intake. This symptomatology is caused by different factors : psychological and physical stress, lack of sleep, ibuprofen intake and the tooth ache.

I recommend consulting with your GP for a careful physical examination and some tests:

-resting ECG
-blood lab tests (complete blood count, PCR, sedimentation rate, kidney and liver function tests, blood electrolytes, fasting glucose) to exclude other secondary causes of high blood pressure and heart rate.

Do you suffer from chronic high blood pressure? Do you take any antihypertensive therapy?

You should closely monitor your blood pressure values and refer them to your attending physician, to discuss possible changes to your antihypertensive therapy or start one if you have no such therapy.

From the other hand I advise you consulting with the dentist. Your tooth ache seems to be related to an infection, which can also raise blood pressure and induce other symptoms like fatigue, fever, etc. It should be treated properly as soon as possible.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best regards!

I do not have blood pressure problems neither high nor low. I do have a dentist appt in two days. its now 130/69 and pulse 83. Is there any chance of a stroke or heart attack if this keeps going up and down? I do not have any chest pains or dizziness or shortness of breaths. But everytime I take a drink I have to go pee. Its clear and I have no pain. Just going about every five minutes.

Brief Answer:
There is nothing to worry about.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

Don't worry about that.

Blood pressure values up to 170mm Hg are not concerning about a possible hemorrhagic stroke.

An ischemic stroke is not related to these changes in your blood pressure too.

Regarding a heart attack, as long as you don't have any chest pain or shortness of breath and you have never suffered before from coronary artery disease, the chances of possible heart attack would be scarse.

Just relax and take a deep breathe! Nothing is going to happen!
It's just too much psychological stress accumulated and the lack of sleep!

I recommend avoiding caffeine intake during these days.

Hope to have been of help!

Best regards!
