Can Cipro Or Bactrim Be Used To Treat Irritated Vaginal Area?

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Nov 2016
Question: Can Cipro or Bactrim be used to treat irritated external vaginal area, no discharge is present. Started out as itching, then without any other symptoms entire area became swollen and irritated. Have stopped using soap to wash area for the present time and have been using petroleum jelly as a boundary to prevent burning when urinating. Had some leftover antibiotics that I have been taking for the last 3 days, symptoms seem to be improving but I have ran out.

Brief Answer:
vaginitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to HCM,
the presence of itching indicates that its a possible fungal infection and redness is secondary to vaginitis, so along with antibiotics you may have to add antifungals like tab fluconazole orally and also instead of petroleum jelly , you may use clotrimazole 1% cream locally thrice a day and that should provide you relief. You may get them prescribed by your physician.
