Are Strokes Common For Someone With Pseudotumor Cerebri?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Jan 2015
Question: Hi,

Are strokes common to happen for someone with pseudotumor cerebri? I've had this condition for 4 months and is still trying to learn as much as possible about this condition that has changed my life in many ways... I'm hoping the medicine (Acetazolamide 1000 mg day) is keeping my CSF pressure down and that it dont become dangerously high and cause my brain to swell because of the pressure within my skull pressing down on my brain...

Brief Answer:
Strokes are not common in Pseudotumor cerebri.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being on Healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

Your question is straightforward and so is the answer-
Strokes are not a feature of Pseudotumor cerebri.

Arterial strokes are not common in Pseudotumor cerebri.

However, sometimes Pseudotumor cerebri is associated with 'sinus venous thrombosis' which is detected on Magnetic resonance venography(MRV).If sinus venous obstruction is present along with pseudotumor cerebri,it can result in venous infarcts.

Please follow-up if you have additional questions,I shall be glad to answer.
