Are Persistent Sore Throat And Bumps On Lip Symptoms Of HSV?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Sep 2015
Question: Hi ,

This started on the 26th of July where i had a sore throat and blocked ears ( flu like symptoms)
Then I had had a severe sore throat with conjunctivitis , theconjunctivitis cleared in a week with drops but he sore throat didn't go for about 2 weeks with antibiotics then after the 2 weeks On friday the 16th I noticed something that felt like a cut on my top lip then it was like a lump on my lip with a hole in the middle and the sore throat was better.

I have been goggling and based on my symptoms i could of caught the HSC-1 virus .I have never got cold sores before

I have some pictures . Does this seem like the hsv-1 virus with cold sores?
Some say cold sores are only outer lip and non mid lip or is this something to do with 2 lots of antibiotics?

Brief Answer:
The sores does not look HSV

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the description and the query. I checked through the pictures. They are distantly taken. Given your description and what I observed the sores are not typical of cold sore or that caused by HSV.

THere are no other symptoms of cold, body pain and sore throat. So it may not go in favor of HSV. Yes you may be right the cold sores are around the mouth and not on the lip.

So the question goes in favor of antibiotics and dehydration. You may go ahead with hydrating with home remedies.

Hope this helps.

Brief Answer:
Herpes presentation

Detailed Answer:
I am sorry I over looked at sorethroat and cold. THe location does seems to be apt for Herpes.
Second, herpes presents with symptom of oral or penile blister and not sore throat and conjunctivitis.
Do you have an active sexual partner? If yes then there is a definite chance of Herpes. How big is the chance depends on your immunity and if the partner is a carrier or sufferer of Herpes.

If you do not have active partner then the chance is near to zero.

I'm very confused . You first said sores don't look like cold sore hsv-1 now in the second you say they do.

Please confirm as I put pictures and full history . Both you answered are conflicting each other.

Brief Answer:
I confirm it is not Herpes if there is no active partner

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am sorry for a delayed reply as I was operating and could not get time to access to internet on Monday.

I confirmed that the sores does not look herpes I only said the location was just matching but not the physical appearance of sores. So my answers were not contradictory.

So I am still not convinced about it being Herpes. I would not a person for Herpes if he presents me with such a kind of blister which is not typical of herpes and just for its location.

Hope this is clear.
