Question: Hello doctor,

I am expecting with 38 weeks, my due date is within 10 days. I want to know which company(for eg. Himalaya, XXXXXXX or anything else) baby products are good for my baby for example Baby hair Oil, powder, massage oil, shampoo, soap. Please suggest. Even suggest massage oil for me also as I am planning to get massage after delivery.

Thanks,
XXXX

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Congratulations on pulling it through since it is almost time for the good news.

About the feed of the baby, let me emphasize on the fact that there is nothing better than breast milk and you need to stick to it. It is the best thing that you can give to your baby. As you know, the human body temperature is higher than the surroundings. So, the baby has been accustomed to slightly higher temperatures till now (in the womb) and needs to be kept covered. The wrapping should be such that the baby does not sweat while the extremities do not grow cold either. So, bathing need not be done within the first 7 days, at least till the cord falls off. Till then, tepid sponging should be enough. Gradually you may start bathing the baby daily. Soap still need not be used. Subsequently you can use XXXXXXX and XXXXXXX or Himalaya baby soap / shampoo (both are good).

Since I emphasize on keeping in an optimum temperature and not letting the baby sweat, requirement of baby powder subsides. If you are to use, you can use XXXXXXX and XXXXXXX or Himalaya baby powder.

Oil is not absorbed through the skin and so I would not recommend use of oil. Nevertheless, tactile stimulation (or touch therapy) is invaluable and almost equivalent to the baby massage and hence I would not discourage it. Oil is not essential, but if you are to use it, AD Vitamin Oil can be used.

Hope that helps.

Regards
