Are GGT Levels Of Eleven Abnormal After Pregnancy?

Posted on Fri, 22 Feb 2019
Question: Hi Dr. Rynne. Just to give a little background I'm 24 years old, 4 months PP. I did have slight anemia during my pregnancy with a ferritin of 7, hgb of 119. Before giving birth to my daughter my ferritin was up to 20 with a hgb of 130. The rest of the cbc panel was wnl as well. As part of routine bw, I went this week and I feel a little concerned. My RDW was ever so slightly elevated at 14.9 with no other lab values suggesting anemia. MCV 87, WBC 6.1, RBC 4.73, Platelets 324. Ferritin was 45 and b12 was 442. The only thing that was outside of normal range was a GGT of 11. I did get these labs drawn during my menstrual period, which i have had for 2 months now despite regular breastfeeding. Just wondering if I should be more concerned. I didnt seem to get an explanation for this and I feel paranoid that something is wrong. Thanks so much for your time.

Brief Answer:

There is nothing to be concerned about!

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have reviewed your information fully and there is nothing to be worried about. unless otherwise GGT of 11 is not abnormal unless you are working with unconventional units.

Also, RDW is never interpreted in isolation without taking into account every other report. Nothing raises even the least worries about your test findings.

Just to be XXXXXXX i got you right, have you been having your periods for 2continuous months?

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you for replying! Not two continuous months, just 2 cycles. My grandfather passed away of MDS so I'm probably just being a little hypervigilant

Brief Answer:

MDS==Myelodysplastic syndrome?

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

It is good to be cautious. Nothing on the report is concerning and nothing leans towards MDS. Be calm, relaxed and lead a healthful life. Healthy diet, regular exercise of 150minutes weekly, no tobacco, less than 10g of alcohol weekly and be a happy persons.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
