After A Multitude Of Tests; Echocardiogram , 48 Hour Monitor,

Question: After a multitude of tests; echocardiogram, 48 hour monitor, I%E2%80%99ve been diagnosed with PVCs and PACs. I am very familiar with how skipped heartbeat or premature heartbeat feels, however every once in a while I get A heartbeat that is a little bit faster than the others. it seems to come on a fairly rhythmic basis. Like once every five beats. Would this be considered a premature or a ecoptic heartbeat? Could this also just be a normal heartbeat?
I get quite a few extra beats my 48 hour Holter monitor showed me with 4%25 extra paint. My doctor said I shouldn%E2%80%99t be concerned unless I get 20%25 of my total beats as PVCs. I would then be eligible for an ablation? does this sound correct or should i seek a second opinion?

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ma’am

After carefully going through your medical query I understand your concern and I would like to tell you 4% premature heart beats in a 48 hours Holter monitoring is not a big concern and ablation is not recommended in this until unless episodes are very quite frequent.

Before giving my further opinion I would like to know :
1 Any previous medical history?

2 Do you take any medications currently ?

3 Your Age?

4. Your stress Level?

Kindly revert back with required details for proper guidance.

Kind Regards

I am 64 years old and I%E2%80%99ve had a history of atrial fib and atrial flutter. Both are under control, I have had an ablation for the atrial flutter fab and am taking medication for atrial flutter. I%E2%80%99ve been tested multiple times and they found no evidence of heart disease. is it true that PVCs and PACs are not dangerous unless they makeup more than 20 percent of your heart rate. My doctor has me on tambacor to control the atrial flutter and the PVCs..

Brief Answer:
Hello again

Detailed Answer:
Yes that’s right, ectopics amounting to less than 20% of the heart rate wont cause problem. However they may be bothersome at times.

PAC’s and APC’s (ectopics) also are more common in individuals who are more anxious, get stressed easily, with high intake of caffeine in the form of coffee or cigarettes.

Tambocor contains Flecainide and is a good drug to prevent unwanted arrhythmias like flutter etc and also take care of ectopics.

If presently you are not experiencing any symptoms like giddiness or extreme light headedness or sense of blacking out then you can carry on with your current treatment and avoid getting stressed or anxious. Also minimise your caffeine intake if it’s there.

Hope to have been helpful.

Kind Regards
