Question: About 1.5 weeks i was waking up in morning with green thick phlegm, that went away but yesterday i was checking and I have a bean sized lymph on left collar bone area. It is moveable but not tender. Also my throat is red right now. Can that lymph be from that? Because I have nothing but bad things about lymphs in that location. I had a full blood test done 3 weeks ago and it is clear.

Brief Answer:
Supraclavicular nodes need further check and investigations

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service,

I carefully read your query and also checked the images uploaded.

The area that your lymph node is on the left collar is called supraclavicular are. Lymph nodes in that area generally warrant a visit with the doctor to make sure of its origin. Problems with the bowel, thyroid or lungs may cause nodes in that area.

These problems may be tumors (less likely in young people) or infections. A doctor needs to examine you and determine if further investigations are needed.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Ok so I did go to the doctor he said my throat was super red, and like I said i had green phlegm and coughing about 1.5 weeks ago, can this be a little inflamed due to the red throat and phlegm I had about a week ago? Its about the size of a bean. Not too big.

Brief Answer:
Infection may be a possible cause. Detailed answer below

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome back,

I did check your blood tests, including the thyroid function. The thyroid function is normal, this rules out problems with the thyroid function but does not rule out structural problems.

As I mentioned above infection may be the cause of the lymph node as tumors are less likely in your age (not impossible though). So an infection that is affecting your respiratory system may be the cause of the lymph nodes but due to its location, it is best to have a visit and get reassured.

If you had a check with your doctor this is quite reassuring. It means he has checked and found the lymph node not serious, the small size is a good indicator but changes in its size should warrant a check with the doctor as soon as possible.
I would also recommend you to have a review with the doctor in 3-4 weeks even if you think the lymph node is not enlarging, just to make sure.

To conclude:
- infection is likely to be the caus of the lymph node
- on the other hand, due to its location, it is best to confirm this with a visit with your doctor (if you already did check it, this is reassuring)
- follow up of the lymph node in 3-4 weeks or if it gets bigger is indicated
- I saw that thyroid function is normal, this is good but it does not rule out structural problems of the thyroid (a mass)- the doctor should palpate the thyroid as well.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Hello, I went to an ENT doctor today and he put a tube down my nose, and said everything is fine, he said he is not too concerned about the node goving it is about.5 cm and not a red flag for malingnancy, he couldnt even find it untill I told him where it was at lol. No other nodes found. Is there anything naturally I can do to speed up process of having it disapear completely?

Brief Answer:
There are no natural treatments and no treatment is really needed now

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome back,

I am glad you had it checked. If the doctor is not worried about it after examining it, this is very reassuring.

It is true, sometimes when nodes are small, we may miss them during the examination, so it is good that patients guide us. Fortunately, it is small in size, this is reassuring as well.

As for natural treatment, there is nothing specific that can be applied or used orally that can reduce the nodes. And actually, there is no need to have any treatments. Sometimes, doctors may prescribe antibiotics if they think the nodes are due to an infection but in your case, I do not think you need to have these either.

I would say, just have an eye on it the next 1-2 months. Very likely it will stay that size or in some cases, it may disappear. Both of these scenarios are good.
In the very rare case that the node increases, you will need to see your doctor and probably an ultrasound done to verify the real size and nature of it.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

I wish you good health and take care,

Hello and welcome back,

It is normal for nodes to be asymmetrical, so it is normal it is not the same on the other side. Also, the fact that it is XXXXXXX is a good prognostic sign, it is reassuring. The node may stay like that all your life and it is normal again.

I agree you should not panic as you already had it checked. Cancer-related nodes are hard, rough and not XXXXXXX and should grow with time. If the doctor did not find such characteristics it is very likely you are going to be fine.

I hope this reassures you and helps you. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Brief Answer:
Pressing on it may cause it to get irritated

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome back,

If you press on it, it may get inflamed and grow and may bring confusion to if something bad is happening.
Thus, I would advise to just leave it alone, do not press on it. Otherwise, you may cause it to get irritated and you may have to go through unnecessary checks.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
