It is a condition in which the fertilised egg is implanted over peritoneum. It is very rare condition. It can be primary or secondary.

Primary abdominal pregnancy is charecterized by presense of normal tubes and ovaries with out recent pregnancy. Absense of uteroperitonel fistula. Presence of a pregnancy related exclusively to the peritoneal surface.


Abdominal pregnancy is almost always secondary, the primary sites being tubes, ovary or even the uterus. The conceptus escapes through the hole in the uerine scar. The incidence of this kind of pregnancy is one in three thousand pregnancy.

Signs and symptoms:

  • Pain in the lower abdomen.
  • Vaginal bleeding.
  • Exaggerated noral uterine pregnancy symptoms like nausea, vomiting, constipation, pain abdomen, increased fetal movements.
  • Illdefined uterine contour.
  • Absence od Braxton-Hicks contractions.
  • Fetal parts are easily felt.
  • Persistent abnormal attitude and position of fetus.

Diagnosis:

Treatment:

Emergency lapartomy is performed irrespective of the period of gestation.


The risks of continuation of pregnancy are:

  • Hemorrhage.
  • Fetal death.
  • Increased fetal malformation.
  • Increased neonatal loss.
