What Is The Treatment For An Infected Cornea?

My 20 yr old son is experiencing severe pain in his groin area as well as his leg. He has had this before and I think he was advised to take allergy meds. Doctors claimed he was allergic to dogs and he took meds and seemed to be okay. 3 years later (he has been around dogs these past few years) this pain has returned. Side note- he cut his cornea last year taking his contacts out, Serious infection and 3 specialists (including Duke Eye Center) have not figured out why he is not healing- Last explanation was that our son could have herpes. Any idea on how we should approach treatment?

Hello,

Not related to be in contact with dog. Staining should be done so that active portion of ulcer can be demarcated.

Now a smear from ulcer be taken for culture and sensitivity. After seeing culture report most effective antibiotic can be selected and included in treatment schedule.

Herpes will not affect ulcer. Immunity of patient will decrease. So vitamin C can be taken daily. With this treatment patient will improve and ulcer will start healing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
