What Does Sharp Pain Under The Sternum Indicate?

Hello, every now and then I get a sharp pain right under the top part of my sternum. I ve noticed lately that it s most common when I m sitting and often right after I drink seltzer water or maybe eating something. It s happened other times, too, but this does seem to coincide. It never lasts more than a few seconds but because of it s position, it always creates considerable anxiety thereafter (so who knows which symptoms are actually real at that point).

Hi,

Sharp pain under the sternum may be due to acid reflux or it may be due to cardiac pain or it may be due to pleuritic pain. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is.

Avoid alcohol and smoking, avoid spicy food. use tablet Pantoprazole before breakfast for one week. If Symptoms not improved please get it done ECG, chest X-ray then consult your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
