I am a 63 yr old male. I have been passing a small amount of blood in my urine off and on, enough to know it. Now in the last several weeks the blood has been constant and when I start to urinate some clotted blood comes out. The entire amount of urine passed has a very bloody look to it. What is causing this?
Hello Thanks for query . Blood in urine (Hematuria) can be either due to one of the following few factors and need to be investigated 1) Enlarged prostate (Most Common cause at this age ) 2) Any mass lesion in the bladder 3) Infection of bladder (Cystitis.)
consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis. 1) Urine routine and culture. 2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis 3) Serum PSA. 4) Endoscopic examination of bladder (Cystoscopy) 5) C.T Scan of the urinary system (If required )
Further more investigations and treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.
