What Could Cause Sudden Flare Up Of Arthritis In The Fingers And Wrists?

I am 81 years old and in good health. I have had arthritis for a few years with some stiffness in my fingers and wrists, but no real pain until recently. I have severe joint pain in my fingers on both hands. My right hade is swollen around the middle to little finger joints. I have taken some Ibuprofen but it does not appear to help. I have tried using a heat pad but it does not help. Idon't know what would cause this sudden flare up.

Hello

NSAID (Non steroid anti-inflammatory drug ) is the best option for pain and swelling. But steroid can be used for short time but for that you need to be qualified like you need to be immunologically strong. There should not be any infection particularly bacterial or fungal, you should not be diabetic, and other. You can discus this with your family physician because steroid needs medical supervision.

Hope I have answered your query,
