What Could Cause Pain In The Middle Finger And Palm In A 78-year-old Who Has Undergone Surgery For Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Years Ago?
My middle finger has recently started to ache, hurts to bend it and can't straighten it as much as others and I have very sensitive Pain on palm at the base of that finger. I had Carpal Tunnel Surgery years ago on that hand. I am a 78 yr old female and have been typing since I was 15 yrs. old.
As you had a history of carpal tunnel syndrome and surgery for the same, at your age now I feel this would have come back by leading pressure over the structures beneath the carpal tunnel and so does the symptoms.
As you are 78 it is not always recommended to undergo surgery but will advise you to undergo Physical therapy so that it can be treated symptomatically.
As in ageing this kind of recurrence of old pains are common and are best-taken care with conservative management.
In my practice of 12 years along with geriatrics I have always found a recurrence of old symptoms and are best treated conservatively.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
