my two year old has been complaining of her throat hurting for a few days. Today she started gagging and sticking her fingers in her mouth until she vomitted. I looked in her throat and she appears to have some sort of lump or growth that looks kind of like a tonsil on the bottom of her throat. what could this be? and should i take her to the hospital?
Hi. Thanks for your query and elucidate history. Yes she needs to be seen at the hospital .
This is not normal at all to have a lump behind the tongue. You have to get to see the child by an ENT surgeon, Has to undergo ultrasonography of the neck first to see whether the thyroid gland is in lower neck in its normal place or as at a place you described -- this is called lingual thyroid and is good that you noticed this at such an early stage.
MRI of the whole area of neck and throat may be needed to confirm the diagnosis.
