What Could Be The Cause For Prolonged Loose Bowel Movements During Old Age?
I am 66 years old female. My issue is my bowels - at times I have the urgent need to go - usually its very loose - I have have colonoscopy which was negative - I had a heart attack in 2014 - requiring stents - then went on 12 meds (including vitaims, fish oil - etc ) and my stools became loose - and have never really become normal again - over a long period of time - I might have perfect bowels movements for days - and then back to urgent moves - esp after or during eating a meal --
Loose stools may be a possible side effect of medications and it is very important that you discuss your medications with your doctor and the chance that they may be the cause. Meanwhile, try to avoid milk (you can still have cheese and yogurt) for a few weeks and see if this helps with the bowel movements to be more normal.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Kind regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
