What Causes Urinary Retention While On A Fentanyl Patch?

my mom, age 89, suffering from Dememtia, had a fall apprx. 7 weeks ago and fractured her shoulder. The doctoer prescribed the fentylal patch, after several weeks my mom stopped urinating, to a point where is has to be cath every 3-4 days. My question, could this be the cause, is there any remedy to help her urinate on her own again. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hello
Welcome to Ask a Doctor service
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice
If this is the urinary retention then underlying cause of it need to be known and it needs to be managed or treated and not the symptom alone, renal failure may be the cause, and it may be due to infection beside this several other causes are there and that needs to be investigated, if the bladder is full then urine can be drained out with the help of catheter.
Hope I have answered your query, let me know for any further assistance.
