What Causes The Feeling Of Loneliness In An Elderly Person?

Hi. I'm a male and almost nineteen and have been living with my Grandmother since I was about 15. I've been dating my current girlfriend for about a year and we're both starting University together in September. (Both my parents are dead). My Grandmother has lived alone since my Grandfather died, and she's now in her early seventies. The problem is. Recently she's been behaving strangely. She was always a little weird, but weird in a good way. Now she makes sexy remarks to me at every opportunity grabs me and cuddles up to me, sometimes I can even feel her breasts pushing against my face. (Not sure if that's just accidental though) and asking me to help her out (or in) of clothes and hitching her skirt to show me where she tore her tights, things along that nature. But recently she asked me if I'd like to sleep in her bed (it's downstairs, my room is at the very top of the house). I said no, my own beds fine to which she relied, well you can always sleep in with me if you don't want to climb all those stairs. Her social life is great. She has many good friends, so loneliness doesn't seem to be the problem.

Thanks for contacting HCM

I am sorry to hear about your grandmother and her recent change in behavior. This is behavior I usually see with my elderly patient who are developing frontotemporal dementia. This is a dementia similar to Alzheimer's dementia but is associated with more bizarre behaviors like loss of impulse control and lack of insight into their behavior. I recommend that she see a neurologist who is experienced in dementia disorders. There are some treatments to help reduce the behaviors.

Hope this answers your question. Please contact again for your medical questions
