What Causes Sudden Shifts In The Vision?

I've been experiencing sudden shifts in my vision very frequently. It started about two years ago and for a year after that, did not happen very often. (Once every few months) This past year, though, it happens numerous times in a week. Sometimes, it occurs more than once in a day. What is this and what should I do?
