What Causes Persistent Headache?

I was diagnosed with ttp 5 yrs ago. I just had blood work done and platlets are at 38! Im very fatigued headaches almost non-stop. Just over all feel crappy. Im pretty scared because i almost died from it 5 yrs ago! How bad is 38 on the platlets? My family dr just said come back in 3 months and have it checked again but i dont want it to get real bad and be in hospital for 2 months again! What should i do?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If your number is actually 38 and not something else then, I suggest you request a hematology/oncology consultation right away. Platelet counts that are that low place you at great risk for bleeding complications in virtually every organ of the body including the brain. Not sure why no action is being taken with that kind of a number unless your doctor is very familiar with your case, the trends that your numbers exhibit, and risk factors you have for exacerbating flareups of the TTP. You should speak with your doctor if you feel uncomfortable. 38 is a very low number for a total platelet count.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
