What Causes Pain In The Lower Abdomen On The Right Side?

I am a Female, 68 years young and in excellent health. I have symptoms of lower pain in my right side..on and off. I have had two bouts of kidney stones and it's a different pain. When I had the kidney stones, the pain progressively got worse until it was unbearable..this is different. Though I did go to my urologist and I'm having a spiral CT scan tomorrow to check it out. I'm also nauseated and fatigued..aches on an off..appetite low..no fever or gas or bloating. The pain in the lower right side comes and goes. I usually feel it when I get up in the morning and walk. If it's not kidney related, then I'll go to my internist or gynecologist and start there..any suggestions?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There are many differential diagnosis for pain in the right lower abdomen in a lady, e.g., kidney stones, appendicitis, urinary tract infection, pelvic inflammatory disease, acidity/gas trouble, etc. Since you have had bouts of pain related to kidney stones earlier, you did the right thing by consulting your urologist. The CT scan should help arrive at a diagnosis.

Hope this helps.

Warm regards.
