What Causes Monochromacy In The Eyes?

I have been experiencing episodes of black and white kaleidoscope vision within the past week. These are transit and range in length from 5-20 minutes. 5 have occurred in my left eye and 2 in the right. They appear in a somewhat circular or crescent shape in an area laterally and move directionally as I change where I am looking around the room. The vision outside of these areas appears normal but I cannot see through the black and white flashing within it. I have also been experiencing some moderately sever sinus congestion but otherwise cannot pinpoint any other changes in my lifestyle and am not under any unusual stress or experiencing anxiety. I had my annual opthalmologic exam two months ago which was unremarkable. Opinion and suggestions please.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I would advise you to undergo a full retinal check up. This could be a sign of vitreous pathology like a detachment of vitreous which occurs with age and usually doesn't need treatment but needs to be Checked as Retina sometimes has hole in such condition which needs laser.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
