Thanks, Hopefully you can let me know what you think this is.. my mother is 81 years old. In the past several months, she has had increasing difficulty with remembering times and dates; she currently can t understand a calendar and gets appointments wrong every week. She has trouble with am and pm sometimes, and doesn t believe the clock sometimes. She has missed appts and shown up at the wrong times/days many times lately. She also is having difficulty wiht simple rules to games as well as simple addition of a few numbers. She used to do bookkeeping so this kind of task was very easy for her.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Due to old age, memory loss does occur and is termed as 'senile dementia'. Such a condition does not have any specific treatment. It only needs nutritive food consumption and moral support. If the progress is gradual, then there is no need to worry about much. If the progress is rapid, then she needs to be evaluated by investigations like CT scan and clinical evaluation by Neurologist. Hope the information provided helps. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
