What Causes Lump Below Clavicle?

My son is 17 years old. He is 6'3" tall, weighs 165 pounds. He lifts weights regularly, and runs cross country. He had a cross-country meet yesterday. Today he has a very noticeable lump below his right clavical, about 2 inches to the right of his sternum. It does not bother him, unless I touch it or he coughs. We are going to physician tomorrow. The lump seems to be on the outside of the ribcage and not underneath. Any thoughts? He is an active athlete and also runs track and plays basketball for his school.

Even though it might not be possible to diagnose the lesion without a personal physical examination, it might come out to be a simple hematoma, or some kind of swelling which could be confirmed by a FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) and other related investigations if any after the physical examination. Therefore, you could get a clear picture of the lesion only after you get it reviewed by the doctor with whom he has an appointment.
