my mother had a headache and then woke up with a black eye ( nasal) ....what could cause this. It is not the first time it has happened. It has occurred, sometimes with a red blood vessel broken in her eye several times in her 50 s till now she is 77 yrs old. She has had migraines off and on since she was in her 40 s? definitely in her 50 s. She claims to just have had a headache the other night when the back eye happened. Thank you.
I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that your mother is having episodes of headache associated with black eye. My response to your question is as follows.
These symptoms indicate ecchymosis of the eyelids because of spontaneous bleeding into eyelids. These symptoms are usually seen in systemic diseases like hypertension. Hence this requires evaluation by measurement of Blood pressure to confirm the diagnosis.
Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for examination and treatment accordingly.
Hope this information is helpful to you. Do write back to me for any further questions and I will be happy to answer and assist you.
