Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Excessive mucous production is most often caused by allergies. However, the D part of Claritin D is a strong decongestant and you may be having rebound mucous production from stopping that. If this does not clear up in a few weeks then you may need to go back on Claritin, but I would suggest that you avoid Claritin D and just take plain Claritin. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and avoiding foods that can irritate the throat like coffee, tea and citrus fruits.

Hope I have answered your query.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
