What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Levels?

I have experienced a sudden rise in blood pressure from normal 132/89 to 155/101. How critical is this only discovered today. Had a complete physical in January with no issues and low chlosterol? Do I need immediate attention? I m 66 years old and 5 11 and weigh 198.

Hello,

The sudden rise in blood pressure from normal 132/89 to 155/101 could be due to possible:
- Medication you have started to take recently?
- Any other cardio-vascular illness although normal complete physical checkup in January.
- Recent changes in your diet (load in salt or coffee).

I advise to:
- Measure your blood pressure regularly for a week, record the results for reference.
- Try to limit caffeinated drinks intake together with salt intake.
- If you have started any new medication, please report this sudden increase in blood pressure to your doctor to weigh its effect.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini
