What Causes Double Vision?

Hi, I m a 63 year old male, relatively healthy until 8 months ago. I don t believe those problems are related to my eyes issue, but they are ongoing and include: bloating after eating, poor digestion, constipation, very unstable thoracic area of the spine, with ongoing inflammation/pain, pain radiating around my rib cage, with severe ongoing pain in the sternum area, assumed to be costochondritis. However my NEW issue, is that when driving to work this morning, I was seeing double the entire 20 minute drive. No pain or dizziness. I worked all day and seemed fine while wearing my glasses (I use just for reading), but when i take them off, everything appears out of sinc . I just took a short drive 8 hrs later, and the double vision is still present! I am 6 ft tall, about $230 lbs, need to lose a few lbs., not overly active, eat reasonably healthy. I am not diabetic, and have moderately above average blood pressure. I see my doctors often with all the above other issues. thanks, Brian

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Hypertension at times can cause spasm of the blood vessels supplying the nerve of your eyes. First we need to rule out which nerve is getting involved and why so. A MRI scan which also rule out any other lesions. But I would advise you to consult an ophthalmologist as soon as possible.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
