What Causes Dizziness While Driving?

after rk sergury in 1983 in which one of my eyes was left slightly near sighted as I was almost 40 yrs and would be needing reading glasses soon, one of my eyes seems to be lazy and needs to be exercised to avoid a lot of blurring. each eye alone gives me more clarity than both together, because that eye can be focused without interference from the other eye. I do not wear corrective lens, just reading glasses but normally look over the top for distance vision. and the reading glasses help nearer. prescriptions do not last long since I will get dizzy. the only prescription glasses I keep are a prescription that got after using the reading glasses technique for about a year. very rarely I have gotten dizzy while driving and closing one eye helps until can i put on the old prescription glasses the last time I checked no one would touck my eyes to correct them so that they focus together. I am afraid I am like this forever but hope that some new corrective technology arrives someday. has anything changed in the last few decades??

Welcome to HCM. I do understand what you are going through with what is called "Mono-vision "correction. Usually after such surgical procedures , with time ,your brain gets trained to use one eye for near and other for far. The time varies between patients though. Assuming your current age around 70 yrs of age, your lens inside becomes even weaker compared to 30 yrs ago which makes it difficult to focus. You need not worry as this is normal for all who had monovision correction done earlier.

Also considering your age, no doctors would consider you for surgical correction of Cornea. However your ophthalmologist can evaluate you for any lens changes and do surgical correction of your lens when needed. Your eye surgeon will be able to explain the pros and cons and give you the best vision correction possible.

Many patients with a similar monovision corrections have said that they don't use any glasses when driving and keep the readers and use them only when needed(which they say rarely). Hope this helps. Take care.

youhave take the opinion of surgeon who has done refractive surgery. no harm in taking corection for near vision if requered and recomanded by doctor.
