What Causes Confusion And Hallucinations?

Mother in law. Has lost the ability to really think for her self. She can still find food to eat but has also opened up cleaning supplies. She is useing the bathroom in her bedroom on the floor. For years she talks alot to others i guess in her head. For the past few weeks she has been talking to what must be a room full of people in her head. Now it is to a point she will not stop talking. She is still fully mobile. She could live to be 100. Yet she is only early 70s... what would this be called.
